IR / AeroplanePosted by Michael Fresh (Chester, United Kingdom) on 11 July 2011 in Miscellaneous and Portfolio. My old Nikon 995 has been redundant for a few years now, so I decided to convert it to shoot infra-red pictures and tested it today. I'm quite happy with the results but whether there will be any need or use for such stark pictures is another matter, but for me its another aspect of photography to explore. My book entitled, Looe in Cornwall a photographic tour, is on sale now.

Beautiful clouds and this plane looks so small ...! 11 Jul 2011 5:01pm Curly from South Shields, United KingdomGreat looking picture from one of Nikon's oddest models Mike. 11 Jul 2011 5:38pm @Curly: The image sensor in older cameras is naturally sensitive to certain infra red wavelengths, not very good for normal daylight photography. To combat this Nikon (and others) utilise a filter, in my 995 it was a blue filter. This blocks the IR and allows daylight light through. What you have to do is remove this blocking filter off the sensor and replace it with a Black or Very dark Red filter, so that 'only' IR passes through. A fiddly job to say the least ! Adrian from Wakefield, United KingdomPic of the day for me,the composition is breathtaking, one to print and frame. looking forward to this series. 5***** 11 Jul 2011 6:57pm @Adrian: Thanks Adrian Steve Rice from Olympia, United StatesThose clouds seem to boil up out of the dark sky. I like that plane tucked under the one cloud. A very beautiful photo.
