Still ClimbingPosted by Michael Fresh (Chester, United Kingdom) on 5 June 2012 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio. The little 'Swiss made' steam locomotive was really making itself heard climbing the steep mountain side with pressurized steam blasting out. The rail system uses a 'Rack and Pinion' for the traction, full details here . My book entitled, Looe in Cornwall a photographic tour, is on sale now.

I don't think I'll be going back again :0 Slackwater - Don from Spokane, United StatesThe color masses in this shot are very good. Excellent composition with that curve of that road. The train on Pike's Peak also uses a rack and pinion system I believe. I like this shot of the rugged landscape. 5 Jun 2012 11:54pm @Steve Rice: I have to say on our decent it wasn't the smoothest of rides, with a lot of banging from the traction rack. Sue-Ann from Quebec, Canadanice contrast in colors with this little red train... I took the same train as Steve to Pikes Peak that climb so high I have been sick... 6 Jun 2012 2:35am @Sue-Ann: Pikes Peak is much higher than Snowdon, so there is no danger of altitude sickness on this little train. B.Sully from Surf City, United StatesI like how you caught a piece of the train in the far left-hand corner, you really get a sense of the incline! 6 Jun 2012 12:41pm franz from Baden, Austriawonderful compo, with different fields of colour and nice leading lines! 7 Jun 2012 7:22pm |
