Still Climbing

The little 'Swiss made' steam locomotive was really making itself heard climbing the steep mountain side with pressurized steam blasting out. The rail system uses a 'Rack and Pinion' for the traction, full details here .

Wow! You really don't realize the magnitude and scale of this composition until you see the little "locomotive" at the far left. Beautifully captured!

The little train that could. The train on Pike's Peak also uses a rack and pinion system I believe. I like this shot of the rugged landscape.

@Steve Rice: I have to say on our decent it wasn't the smoothest of rides, with a lot of banging from the traction rack.

nice contrast in colors with this little red train... I took the same train as Steve to Pikes Peak that climb so high I have been sick...

@Sue-Ann: Pikes Peak is much higher than Snowdon, so there is no danger of altitude sickness on this little train.
